Professional field of silver catalyst:

It is in 1973 that SINOPEC BRICI began researching and developing about YS series of silver catalysts, and the first industrial application of which used in 1989. Up to now, SINOPEC BRICI has possessed 21 proprietary technologies for the epoxidation of ethylene involved in YS series of silver catalysts. And the technologies involved have applied and granted 145 patents by CPB, USPO, IPINDIA, JPO, Octrooicentrum Nederland, GCCPO, EPO, etc.

So far, YS series of silver catalysts have applied 54 rounds in 14 sets foreign and domestic EO/EG units, and the Accumulative sales of which exceed 3000 tons. The technologies for the epoxidation of ethylene involved in YS series of silver catalysts have received national and ministerial-level incentives 19 times.

In recent years, According to the different technical process of numerous EO/EG units, three types of YS series of silver catalysts, namely high selectivity silver catalyst, middle selectivity silver catalyst and high efficiency silver catalyst, have been researching and developing by SINOPEC BRICI.

The high selectivity silver catalysts, YS-8810 and YS-9010, the selectivity of which have reached over 90%, have applied several rounds successfully in various EO/EG units, and were individually awarded the second prize of SINOPEC Science-Technology Progress Award in 2013 and the first prize of SINOPEC Technological Invention Award in 2015.

he middle selectivity silver catalyst, YS-8520, which has applied successfully in several foreign and domestic EO/EG units, and is mainly used in the early EO/EG units, the decarbonization systems of which have be revamped, and gained the second prize of SINOPEC Science-Technology Progress Award in 2011 and the first prize of CPCIF Science-Technology Progress Award in 2012 respectively.

The newly developed high efficiency silver catalyst, YS-8830, is particularly suitable for the reactors where the concentrations of carbon dioxide in feed gas and space-time yield are higher. The comprehensive performances of three types silver catalysts above have reached the international leading level.

The successful industrial application of silver catalysts, namely YS-8810 and YS-8520, made the average unit price of foreign silver catalysts reduce by 45%, indeed, lowered procurement costs tens of millions of dollars for enterprise every year.

The research laboratory of silver catalyst has perfect research facilities and equipments including 220 sets of micro isothermal integral fixed-bed reactors, 3 sets of pilot-scale units, one set of sideline unit in an industrial setting, and other characterization methods involved in the carriers and catalysts.


Fine chemical industry:

Yanshan branch, BRICI has been researching on molecular sieve, supported catalysts, fine chemicals preparation and other aspects, focusing on the research and development of alpha olefins preparation, C4 conversion and utilization and pyrolysis gasoline hydrogenation, and has acquired more than 100 domestic and foreign patent and won nearly 10 different level awards.

The technology of ethylene trimerization to 1- hexene realized industrialization in Sinopec Beijing Yanshan Company, filling China's gap of 1-hexene production.

Technology of producing isobutene by MTBE cracking has been licenced to many users. This technology is environment-friendly and possesses merits like: high product purity and selectivity, its product can be directly used to produce butyl rubber.

Technology of n-butene isomerization to isobutene can effectively convert n-butene in etherified C4 to isobutene, it possesses high conversion of n-butene and high yield of isobutene . This technology has been successfully applied for many times.

YN, BY series of hydrogenation catalysts are widely used in petrochemical enterprises of pyrolysis gasoline hydrogenation, C4 hydrogenation, C9 hydrogenation and other industrial plants.

The technology of ethylene oligomerization to alpha olefins has completed the pilot test.

Fine Chemical Department has various kinds of experiment equipment, pilot plant and corollary analytical instruments for the preparation of molecular sieves, supported catalysts and the basic organic synthesis.


Synthetic Rubber Areas:

Synthetic rubber research and development have been carried out since 1975 in Yanshan Branch of Beijing Research Institute of Chemical Industry (BRICI), SINOPEC. The research which is covering six main synthetic rubber areas services in the product structure adjustment and integrated use of resources for SINOPEC, including various catalyst systems and polymerization methods. A complete chain is formed combining basic research, polymerization methodology, technology, grades development and applied research. So the innovation ability and commercial value increase significantly. So far more than ten sets of small scale pilot plant, two sets of pilot plan and two sets of Catalyst pilot plant were built as well as analysis and testing instruments on synthetic rubber structure and performance. The research content is mainly about research and development, performance evaluation, application, and technology promotion on lithium polymer (SBS, SSBR, SIBR, SIS, LCBR, styrene-butadiene resin), Isobutylene-Isoprene Rubber(IIR), BIIR, rare earth BR, rare earth IR, titanium catalyzed IR, EPR, ESBR(emulsion polymerized styrene butadiene rubber), polylactic acid, polyamide elastomer and so on.

Many industrialized technology were developed independently which have extensive influence domestic and overseas, such as 187 patent applications, 102 authorized patents, National Prizes for Progress in Science and Technology and Sinopec awards for scientific and technological advancement. 10 kt scale SBS commercial plants were licensed to be built according “Complete sets of industrial technology of SBS” in Baling Petrochemical and Yanshan Petrochemical, respectively. SSBR commercial plant and IR commercial plant were licensed to be built in Yanshan Petrochemical. “SBS complete sets of industrial technology” and “SSBR complete sets of industrial technology” were also licensed abroad in 1980’s and 1990’s which is the first time for complete petro-chemical technology export.
